Before purchasing a puppy ask the breeder to show you certificates for both parents for the following genetic tests:
Hip and elbow - certificates issued by OFA, OVC, or Penn Hip
Eyes - known as CERF
Heart - Cardiac
VWD - von Willebrand's Disease
If any Bernese Mountain Dog breeder cannot produce these certificates look elsewhere for your pup. Many breeders do not do these tests because of the costs involved, or their dog(s) may or have failed or just don't care. Make sure you care!!!
All our breeding dogs have undergone and passed genetic testing for hips and elbows, eyes, cardiac, and von Willebrand's Disease (blood clotting disorder) to give your puppy the best chance for a healthy life.
Certificates available upon request.
Canadian born purebred - definition of: *"To be considered a purebred both parents of the puppy must be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. It is the seller's responsibility to uphold Federal Law and provide the new owner with a certificate of registration within six months of the date of the sale." (*from the Canadian Kennel Club website) Many breeders claim their puppies are purebreds but do not have the registration for the parents to support this or have a
limited registration which means they cannot register the pups as purebreds. Be sure to purchase your puppy from a CKC registered Kennel and confirm that your pup will be registered as a purebred with the CKC.
